Comparison is the thief of joy. We read about it on the internet... on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. It's one of those little motivational sayings you see from time to time.
I can't be alone in saying that every so often I come across work by a wedding photographer and I am in awe, but at the same time I am left feeling completely and utterly rubbish. Thankfully this doesn't happen much and I'm usually inspired and motivated by what I see. But when the negative mood hits, it can certainly knock my confidence.
Another saying I have come across is that 'the only photographer you should compare...
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Vicky and Ramin to capture their pre wedding photography for them. Vicky is from London, a place that I love to work! I've had the pleasure of working as a wedding photographer a few times in London so far, and I loved every minute! I also worked along side a couple of London wedding photographers when I was making wedding films, and watching them do their job was an invaluable experience for me. It's so exciting to be able to capture such a special day for people, and to be able to travel around the country in the process just adds to the pleasure.
The...
One thing I learned quickly about working as a wedding photographer is that you have to expect the unexpected on a wedding day. Equipment can really help you in tricky situations, and having a decent bag to protect your gear and carry it around is essential. Most bags I’ve seen are very manly looking, and I was after a beautiful bag that looked more like a handbag, one that I could wear over my shoulder or with the longer shoulder strap to have easy access to extra lenses. Enter the wonderful world of Epiphanie bags from the USA. Not only are they gorgeous to look at, they are padded inside...
Julie and Ward's day was a bit of a special one. I was asked to join up with them for a wedding photography shoot, as unfortunately their wedding photos provided by another photographer weren't quite what they'd hoped for. It was a true pleasure to take their "wedding" photographs for them, although at first it felt a little strange, knowing there wasn't going to be an actual wedding on that day! But I soon got into it, and not having any time restraints really helped us all relax and enjoy ourselves.
Julie is one of those people that you instantly warm to. She's caring, kind, beautiful and a wonderful...
It is with much excitement (and a bit of disbelief) that I write this little blog post to announce that I have had the honour of winning The Wedding Community’s competition ‘Picture of the Month’.
When my picture was chosen as ‘Picture of the Day’ I never thought that I’d win the competition that followed. I was up against some stunning shots. So when I received an email at 12:04pm (yes, how sad is it that the competition closed at 12:00pm, and I recall the email was at 12:04 exact) I got quite a shock!! It was a lovely and unexpected surprise.
I just want to say a massive thank...
Liverpool Wedding Photography - Suites Hotel
Jemma and Keith’s wedding day took place at the Suites Hotel Knowsley in Liverpool. The day was a beautiful one and everyone was lovely, including the staff! The only thing that didn’t quite go to plan was the weather!! But despite this, it seemed to work in our favour. We used their beautiful bridal suite for the couples portraits, and got some pictures that we would have missed out on if the day had been a dry one. That’s one thing I love about weddings, sometimes what first appears to be a disadvantage can actually turn out in your favour....
Built in 1891, the stunning Hillbark Hotel is located in the Wirral and is a truly spectacular wedding venue. I was there a few months ago as a second wedding cinematographer for the day. I am incredibly excited to be going back again soon, but this time working as a wedding photographer which is my passion. Having worked at the Hillbark before, I know what to expect, a fantastic venue located on beautiful parkland, and the staff are a true pleasure to be around.
The wedding was a beautiful one, and the weather was just about on our side until it started to rain and then thunder. Thankfully...
I met up with Mark and Erin on their stunning wedding day at the gorgeous Dalston Hall in Cumbria. I was working as a second videographer , capturing their wedding on my DSLR camera, the one that I also use for wedding photography. I love how creative you can be with a professional DSLR, you can change lenses which means you can change focus, depth of field and light conditions. This allows you to capture beautiful and creative cinematography. I'm a huge fan of using a shallow depth of field, which means you can focus on something such as the bride's eyes, and everything else will be out of focus....
I had the pleasure of working as Claire and Trevor's wedding photographer for the day. It was one filled with special touches that made it truly unique. I just love weddings like theirs! It makes the occasion so personal for the couple, and definitely more memorable for all of the guests.
At the very start of the day while Claire was getting ready, she was shown into a bedroom where a collection of gifts had been laid out on the bed for her. As soon as she saw the stuffed monkey called Mojo, the excitement and surprise on her face was clear to see!! Mojo and Claire go way back to when Claire...
Northop Hall Wedding Photography
I ended up joining Claire and Roger a bit last minute, but it was a decision that I certainly didn’t regret!! From the very start of the day, both Claire and Roger were lovely to be around, and the general mood of the wedding was a fantastic one. I first met Claire in the bridal suite at Northop Hall, North Wales where she was getting ready, and she was one of the most chilled out and happy brides that I’ve ever met!! From the moment I walked in the room, I got a bit excited. All of the little details from the day were gorgeous, and I couldn’t wait to photograph...
