Is Wedding Photography Hard?
Many people assume that wedding photographers show up on a wedding day, stand around and take photographs and that’s their job. Simple! The truth? There is SO much more to it than you might think!
Wedding photographers spend much more time on the admin side of their business than the actual shooting photographs. A few examples:
On the actual wedding it’s usually a very long day for the photographer. Often 13, 14 or 15 hours of running around on my feet! I’m constantly scanning around me to capture things naturally as they happen, thinking of the timings and what’s happening next on the list I need to capture. Honestly? It’s a mentally and physically exhausting job, but incredibly rewarding!
I can’t think of anything better to get from my job than a bride and groom (sometimes in happy tears!) telling me how moved they are with their photos. The little moments they didn’t realise happened on the day I captured. Taking those photographs they can cherish for a lifetime, often displaying them in their homes and online to remind them of their special day? Priceless! And when they say how they hardly evening noticed me on the day? Even better!
The next time you’re at a wedding and you see the photographer, smile and say hi. They’ll appreciate your kindness, no matter how busy they are!
