Recently I had the pleasure of running off to Gretna Green, Scotland to shoot a stunning wedding.  The day was an incredible one, my little family and I enjoyed a weekend away where we were able to join in with the festivities as I was working as their wedding photographer. The day felt like it had so much more meaning as it was a family wedding, I am always attached to my brides and grooms as I get to know them before the big day, but when it’s family… it’s a whole different level!

Despite torrential rain for a majority of the morning (thank you, Scotland!), the sun came out just in time for Lyndsey to walk down the aisle at The Mill Forge. We even squeezed in some backlit dreamy photographs before it started to rain again, so you would have thought it had been the most perfect day.

One thing is certain, Matty and Lyndsey are both clearly loved, and despite it being a smaller intimate wedding, the happiness and joy everyone expressed gave the day such personality. One of my favourite shots from the day was the moment the Father of the Bride walked into the room and saw his little girl for the first time as a bride. It was such a beautiful moment to witness, and capture.

Documentary wedding photography, reportage wedding photography, wedding photojournalism… whatever you want to call it, it’s a large part of my style and aim as a wedding photographer. I always work to keep posing down to a minimum, allowing more emotion and natural moments to be captured on your big day. Acting as a fly on the wall for a large majority of the day, I let you get on enjoying yourself, and am as unobtrusive as possible.

I recently shot a wedding at Gretna Green, Scotland. I was incredibly privileged to witness this wonderful reaction. I had stood in the right spot to capture  the moment the Father of the bride saw his little girl for the first time. I can honestly say that his reaction was the most impressive I’ve ever seen! It was so beautiful, and touching. The  flower girl reflected in the mirror gives the image more depth, it’s almost like a reflection of the bride herself but a different time perspective.

It’s moments like this that make a wedding for me.  These emotions and feelings pass so fast, but to press that shutter button at just the right time… that’s why I love what I do!

Of all the couples that I work for, they all have one thing in common –  they are in love. But for some couples, their love really shines through and is plain for all to see. Debbie and Paul are certainly one of those couples!

One interesting fact I found out about Paul early on is that he is a cameraman for ITV, he films on the set of Emmerdale. Among the guests were some of his crew members from ITV. The general atmosphere of the day from all family, friends and workmates was one of joy, fun and laughter.

A few memorable moments from the day were:

During the ceremony, as Debbie’s Dad got up to give her away, he took her hand and tried to drag her away from Paul!

After the vows had finished and they were pronounced Husband and Wife, Debbie and Paul both turned around and took a bow for all their wedding guests.

As all of the wedding guests were gathered in the boat for the big group shot that Paul had his heart set on, I shouted “Cheer on the count of three! One…” at this point the crowd went wild cheering and laughing. I thought, wow, I’m doing really well here! It was only afterward that I found out a man in the hotel behind me had come to the window in just his underwear!! I’d like to thank the random guest of the hotel (and also apologise for any embarrassment caused) as I can honestly say I’ve never had such a wonderful reaction before for a huge group shot!

Paul had bought two massive white balloons to represent the white balls from The Prisoner the TV series that had been filmed in Portmeirion in the 60′s.

I joined Chris and Jade at the stunning Statham Lodge in Cheshire for their big day. I first heard from Chris a few months ago, when he enquired about a last minute wedding. Their wedding was a bit rushed as he will soon be deployed as he works for the Navy. Once I’d met up with them for their pre wedding shoot, I was over the moon that I happened to be free! Statham Lodge is a stunning wedding venue, like no other that I’ve worked at before. Not to mention that Chris and Jade are a beautiful couple, inside and out. This made working with them a pleasure.

Chris surprised Jade with a lot of the details that he had planned himself. He had arranged the flowers, cake, and booked me to be their wedding photographer. Jade was absolutely glowing on their wedding day, for more reasons than one! She’s actually in her second trimester of pregnancy, which you would never be able to tell by looking at her!

It’s always difficult doing write ups, as I have so much that I could say about the day. It was full of lots of love, laugher, good times and fun. It was a joy to capture such a special day in their history.

Chris and Jade, I wish you both the best for the future with all your girls! I hope to see you again in the future. Here’s just a few favourite wedding photographs, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Yesterday I was once again back at one of the most beautiful wedding venues I have ever been to. Linthwaite House Hotel is situated overlooking the stunning Lake Windermere in Cumbria, and is simply spectacular. Rain or shine, this venue really does have the ‘wow’ factor! I had the privilege of shooting a wedding there last year, and this year I am going back SIX times, including pre-wedding shoots! The staff are lovely, which makes it an even more pleasant experience to be there.

Magda and Richard will be getting married at Linthwaite  in a few weeks, and I’m incredibly excited about joining them! They asked me to capture some of the celebrations at the hotel with family and friends the night before, then the next day I will be working as their wedding photographer.

The evening reception was located at The Castle Green Hotel, Cumbria. It’s a beautiful hotel building built in 1847, set with lovely views of the stunning Lake District.

It’s always exciting getting back from a wedding and taking a little look at the photographs captured that day. An enjoyable (and slightly daunting) task is selecting an image or two to show the couple a teaser of their wedding day. Obviously due to backlog it can be a few weeks before the couple see all of their photographs, so I like to give them a chance to see at least one glimpse of what’s to come. But how do you use one photograph to sum up an entire day packed full of so many people, so many things happening, and so many good times?

I had the incredible pleasure of working for Paul and Debbie who have to be one of the most lovely (and loved up!) couples I have ever met. They are people that you instantly feel comfortable with. They wanted to have their guests donate to charity instead of receive any wedding gifts for themselves, that’s how nice they are.

Anyway, a full blog post will be coming up in the next few weeks. It was an incredible day, perfect weather, a lovely couple, a day full of so much love, laughter and genuine emotion… I won’t say any more!

The beautiful Sophie is just three months old, but she was also so good while I was there. She wasn’t too thrilled when the strange lady with the camera stuck her on her tummy, but besides that I think she was pretty happy! She has the most beautiful blonde hair that sticks up in such a way that makes her even cuter.

The building itself is absolutely stunning, a Georgian manor house hotel. It gives a beautiful backdrop for any day, but is especially gorgeous for a wedding. Set in landscaped gardens, and surrounded by fields, this wedding venue has lovely views of Cheshire countryside. The room the bride will be getting ready in is lovely. A large room connected to a smaller sitting area, both have lots of lovely windows that will let in plenty of natural light. Always a lover of natural light, this ensures that even if the weather should prove dull, the photographs taken indoors will be nicely lit.

Statham Lodge offer outdoor (as well as indoor) wedding ceremonies, and my bride and groom for this year are  hoping for an outdoor wedding. Obviously being outside could offer a few extra challenges for the photography, but if the conditions are right, it could be spectacular!

If you’re looking for a Cheshire wedding venue, I highly recommend Statham Lodge. The staff are friendly, the building and views are gorgeous, and it will be a perfect location for your wedding.
